Participants were invited to bring their instruments and jam. Thursday January 12, 2006 from 8 to nearly 11 PM, the Swing dance club hosted a dance party in the University of Utah Union Ballroom to the SwingnJive combo provided by the U of U Noon Concerts club. SwingnJive plays hot driving Bebop, Jive and 40s 50s Swing music with: Dave Bertram from U of U Jazz Ensemble on Trumpet, Curtis Woodbury from BYU Jazz Ensemble on Tenor sax; Lloyd 'Doc' Miller on piano and Ian camp on drums. TUESDAYS AT TROLLEY SQUARE JAZZ SERIES IN AUGUST The August Trolley Square Jazz series was back with fun and exciting free concerts every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the North Plaza near Wells Fargo on 7th East. The concerts will include Blues, New Orleans jazz, hot and cool jazz, Latin Jazz and Swing-Jive. The series was organized by jazz expert Dr. Lloyd Miller who has performed in many major venues in Utah, throughout the country as well as 13 years in Europe and the Middle East. The concerts were as follows: 8/2 LA Blues, 6:30 – 8:00 A traditional hard driving blues band with African-American vocalist Sister Maryam. 8/9 Salt City Saints, 6:30 – 8:00: A traditional old time 7 piece turn-of-the century New Orleans band with fun sing alongs from the southern church tradition. 8/16 Worldclass Quartet, 6:30 – 8:00: A hard driving 1950s / 60s jazz combo with Hershel Bullen, Lars Yorgason, Christian Parry and Dr. Lloyd Miller. 8/23 Costa Caliente, 6:30 – 8:00: Latin jazz from the 50s and 60s with hot trumpet and tenor backed up by an exciting rhythm section. 8/30 SwingnJive, 6:30 – 8:00: Hot and spunky Swing, Jive and Bebop from the 40s and 50s, perfect for swing dancing and listening.
